Preseason Preview: Niners colts

By Niner Faithful

Before I start this week’s Blog it should be noted that 72 years ago today August 24th The Niners Played their first ever game. A Preseason game V.S. the la dons.

This week the Niners go to indianapolis to play our third Preseason game. The third Preseason game is the one where the starters usually play the most. In his last press conference before the game Kyle Shanahan said “We would like the starters to play the first half”. That includes Richard Sherman who will be making his Niners debut on Saturday. Speaking of debuts Arik Armstead will be making his preseason debut after finally being able to practice this week after he suffered a hamstring injury earlier in training camp. Malcolm Smith will return to action along with Solomon Thomas for the first time since both players got hurt against the cry girls. Garry Gilliam did not progress to the next level of the concussion protocol this week so he has been ruled out. K’Waun Williams will be a game time diction. There were plenty of bright spots in last week’s lost to the houston texans. Jimmy G Cool was 10-12 for 136 yards and a TD. And First round pick Mike McGlinchey has allowed no QB pressures in 26 Passing Blocking snaps. Considering that his Pass Blocking was looked as something he needed to improve on that stat right there is encouraging. The Run Blocking for the second game in a row opened no running lanes for our Running Backs and Our Pass Rush failed to produce a sack and only had 3 QB hits all game. Since this is the final time we will see any starters till most likely Week 1 in minnesota when it starts to count here is final Preseason Preview.

  1. Open Up Run Lanes

It seems to me that every week I seem to put this as one of the things I want to see for the starting O-Line. A lot of Kyle Shanahan’s offence depends on being able to throw deep of play action. Without the threat of a Run game the play action will fail and hence our offence will fail. The Niners made it a priority to upgrade our O-Line this offseason. I understand it’s going to take time for the O-Line to gel and get used to playing with each other, but it’s time to see some progress since this is the last time they will play before Week 1.

  1. Harass the Opposing QB

The Niners Pass Rush has been nonexistent pretty much since Aldon Smith got cut from the Niners. If we want any shot of winning the NFC West this year our Pass Rush must harass opposing QB’s. We all know what wilson has been able to do to the Niners with his ability to uses his legs. A good showing by the Pass Rush Saturday will go a long way in calming our nerves.

  1. For The Love Of God Don’t Get Hurt

The Niners have had their fair share of injury scares this Preseason. Last week we lost Erik Magnuson for at least 6 weeks and Joe Williams for what’s been said to be a while. The Niners don’t need any more injuries this close to the Regular Season.

  1. Win

Every week this Preseason I have said that I want my team to win. I understand that the overall objective is to get reps evaluate your roster and get out healthy. But I have the highest standard when it comes to this Football Team. Every time the Niners step on that field I expect us to win and I want players and coaches to feel the same way!!!!!

Preseason Preview: Niners texans

The Niners open the 2018 Preseason with a 24-21 victory against the cry girls. Nick Mullins lead the Niners back from 11 points down. The biggest story coming out of the game was the injuries. George Kittle and Matt Breida both separated their shoulders and will miss the rest of the Preseason but should be ready to go Week 1. Solomon Thomas  and Garry Gilliam sustained concussions and are both in the concussion protocol. Eli Harold is day to day with knee contusion and Malcolm Smith is week-to-week with a hamstring and is doubtful to play in houston. The main goal of the Preseason games are to get reps against another team and come out healthy. With that said here is what I’m looking for from the Niners this week.

1.) Really Stay Healthy

As stated above the Niners did not come away from Week 1 of the Preseason unscathed. Luckily none of the injuries they sustained seem to serious and none of them are seen as anything that will keep anyone out of action Week 1 in minnesota. This week we might not be so lucky. I understand that even our starters need to shake off the rust and get ready to play hopefully 19 weeks of football, but we most find that balance between getting ready and making sure everyone’s as healthy as possible for the regular season.

2.) Get The Run Game Going

Last week against the cry girls the Niners starting O line struggled to create running lanes for our running backs. After spending big money on center Weston Richburg and a top 10 pick on tackle Mike McGlinchey that was disappointing to see. The O line must show improvement this week to ease the concern of us Faithful.

3.) Defense Please Stop Someone

Last week the cry girls offence marched right down the field and scored. After all off-season thinking we have made great strides on that side of the ball it was disheartening to see. It was only one series so I don’t feel it’s time to hit the panic button yet another poor preference by the starters is going to raise some red flags.

4.) Become 2-0

In his post game press conference last week Kyle Shanahan said in the Preseason he will always play to win while still being smart. I LOVE THIS STATEMENT!!!!! I want the Head Coach to have that mentality. To quote Mike Singletary “I WANT WINNERS”!!!!! Every time the Niners step on the field I want us to expect to and want to win it’s never OK to lose.

Preseason Preview: Niners cry girls

By Niner Faithful

After waiting for what seemed like forever the 2018 Preseason Starts this Thursday, while the regular season doesn’t start until September 9th in Minnesota it still feels great having the Red & Gold back at Levis. Even though it’s preseason anytime the Niners play the cry girls it’s Football at its finest. The preseason is all about trying to figure out how to balance getting the best 53 players on your team while having to make sure you have enough quality players at each position to go cover the injuries that we know will happen. It’s going to be fun to be at EMPIRE ROW eating great food chillin with my Niners Fam and best of all watching my Niners. Here are something’s I want to see for me to feel that it was a successful preseason game.

1.) Stay Healthy

The number one goal in any preseason game is to stay healthy. The worst thing that could happen is to lose anyone to an injury in a game that doesn’t count in the standings.

2.) Play Clean Football

Jimmy G Cool and most of the starters will more than likely only play a few series, a quarter at most. I don’t think that Kyle Shanahan will do much scheming in the preseason, so I’m not looking for the offense to score a bunch of points. What I mean by play clean football is don’t do things that hurt us. No false starts, fumbles, Interceptions things like that.

3.) Do Your Job

A lot of times in the preseason you see players try to impress coaches and do too much and it hurts the team. Football is the type of game you can’t force things, You have to let the game come to you. I have faith that we have a good enough Coaching Staff that they’ll be able to put players in positions to make plays. Every player in all 3 phases must do their job and if they do we have a great chance of winning.

4.) Win

I know winning the game seems like it doesn’t matter in the preseason, but let me ask you this, have you ever heard of a championship team saying “It’s OK to lose”? No, you haven’t because championship teams don’t think like that. Bill Walsh had a saying “Champions act like Champions before they’re Champions”. I want the Niners to have the mentality that whenever they step onto that field it’s to do one thing and one thing only and that’s win.

No matter what happens on Thursday it’s great to have Niners Football back in our lives. Here’s to a great season and GO NINERS!!!!!

Preseason 2018:4 Players To Watch

By Niner Faithful

After an offseason that seemed to take forever to end Training Camp is among us once again!!!!! Let us rejoice Niner brothers and Niner sisters!!!!! With training camp already started and the first preseason game only a week away, I thought I’d give you the players I’m going to have my eye on this preseason.

George Kittle:

I’m not putting Kittle Corn on my players to watch just because he signed my box of Kettle Corn for me. I really do believe that with a clean bill of health and a year experience in the NFL, Kittle is primed to improve on his rookie season when he had 43 catches for 515 yards and 2 TDs. They say a Quarterback’s best friend is a Tight End so look for Jimmy G Cool to target Kittle Corn a lot in the early part of the year. The only question to me, is can he stay healthy? Kittle injured his hamstring last year in Training Camp and he admitted earlier this off-season it nagged him for a while last year.

Ahkello Witherspoon:

Ahkello Witherspoon is going to be a star. Just watching him at practice you can tell his gotten a lot bigger and has way more confidence. As Defensive Coordinator Robert Saleh said “he’s a grown man”. If Richard Sherman can be anything close to what he was in Seattle,

Witherspoon will be test a lot this year. Witherspoon IMO made the most improvement over the course of the season. In the beginning of the season he wasn’t even active on game day. By the end of the season he was not only playing at a very high level, but was the best corner on the team. The Niners have a very young secondary that they are asking a lot of. Ahkello is going to play a HUGE part of how well our defense plays this year. If he has any type of regression it could mean a very long season.

Adrian Colbert:

Another young important piece in the Niners secondary is Adrian Colbert. Colbert went from being a 7th round pick who was brought in to fight for a roster spot at corner to being our starting Free Safety by the end of the year. Colbert has incredible range and loves to hit people (the hit the last game against the yams still gives me chills).Colbert must prove that he can carry over his play from last year for 16 games this year. A.C. is full of swag and confidence I have full faith that he will prove the reason he’s  becoming a fan favorite.

Cassius Marsh:

Straight Ca$h homie. Cassius Marsh is a man on a mission this year. Kyle Shanahan went out of his way in his post draft presser to let Marsh know he believes in him. The Niners believe that Ca$h still has lots of untapped potential inside him that was not allowed to show it’s self in New England. Cassius Marsh is one of the main reasons why the Niners didn’t draft an edge rusher. A lot is riding on the pass rush to produce more than the 30 sack they had last year. I have said many times no Quarterback can hurt you if he’s on his ass and with our young secondary pass rush is the number 2 key to the Niners having a great season.
