The first game of the season has come and gone. While my emotions are all over the place after an up and mostly down performance from the Knicks. After screaming “Rose is back” like a hundred times in the second quarter and then yelling “Gotdamn it Kryie is nice” in the third quarter, I am going to try and give you  a fair assessment of the game.

The good

Derrick Rose- After injury worries and a Rape trial that forced Rose to miss most of the preseason many wondered how Rose would perform. Rose looked explosive and had some acrobatic finishes in the paint. Did I really just use the words explosive and acrobatic while describing a Knicks point guard?  Finishing the game with 17 points while shooting 41%  from the field isn’t that bad and Rose did shoot 50% from 3. All in all it was a good performance from the former MVP.

Mindaugas Kuzminskas- While only playing 9 minutes (all of it garbage time) he did put up 7 points. Shooting 60% from the field and 33% from 3 should earn him a few minutes in the next game. The kid has potential and it will be interesting to see how he develops as the season progresses.  Plus he’s really good in 2K and his name is really cool to pronounce. Say it with me KUZ-MINS-KAS.

The bad
Losing a game by 29 points is never a good thing but the Knicks should have put up more of a fight then that. Entering the season with such high expectations the club really fell flat on their collective faces. The Cavs out rebounded the Knicks 51-42. The Cavs also had 31 assist compared to just 17 from the Knicks. Turnovers and lack of chemistry killed the Knicks. However the club showed some flashes of brilliance in the second quarter.

The ugly

Both Noah and Lee scored 0 points for the game. Having two of your starting five throw up donuts won’t win you many games. Both players are more known for their defense but they must and will do better. Noah finished the game 0/1 from the field and recorded 6 rebounds and 3 assist and 1 steal. While Lee was 0/5 from the field and 0/2 from three.

Lastly all preseason long we heard the players and coaches talk about defense. It seemed to be a major concern for the Knicks. After last nights game you can see why. The Knicks looked confused on the pick&roll, often leaving the screener wide open for the trey. Cleveland shoot 37% from three going 13/35 overall. Porzingis was the main culprit often doubling the ball handler and leaving his man wide open for three. All the other issues will probably iron themselves out but the defense may be a major concern. Derrick Rose seemed to agree as well ” WE GOT TO PUT PEOPLE DOWN. WE GOT TO FOUL. NOT PUT THEM DOWN BUT FOR SURE WE HAVE TO FOUL THEM IN THE OPEN COURT TO MAKE SURE (JAMES) DOESN’T GET THE CROWD INTO THE GAME”.

All in all it was only one game and even the super team warriors got shell-shocked by 29 points. Guess it’s far to say
