Whew! The chase standings took a wild hit after the conclusion of the BOA500. It started out calm but lap 74 Harvick (4) lost power and spent the entire day behind the wall trying to fix his mechanical issues to no success. Joey Logano had a good run until lap 154 when he slammed the wall hard! Taking his 22 ford behind the wall with extensive damage. Chase Elliott led 103 laps in the early parts of the race but due to a bad pit stop had to restart in 5th. Unfortunately contact between the 78 and 3 caused a big pile up collecting chase drivers Chase Elliot and Austin Dillon. With 25 laps to go chaser Denny Hamlin blew a motor and couldn’t finish the race either ,leaving 5 of the 8 in contention for the championship with terrible finishes! Wins are a must at Kansas and Talladega for one of these guys before the deadline in 2 weeks!
When the dust settled and the race resumed nobody could touch Jimmie Johnson in his Lowes 48. He and Chase had the 2 dominant cars and he was able to keep his nose clean to get his 78th career win and punch his ticket into the next round of the chase in 2 weeks!
For the next 2 weeks the guys under the cutoff line will have NO room for error, as Kanas and Talladega approach the drivers and crews will need a strong game plan to bounce back after their misfortunes on Sunday!
