Knicks fans have been waiting all summer to see their team take the hardwood. Much to the disappointment of many fans the Knicks looked a lot like they did last year. The offense was stagnant and the defense was nonexistent. Somewhere down in Houston Ryan Anderson is still draining 3’s on the Knicks. All in all it was a very disappointing, performance however there were a few positives.
Kristaps Porzingis looked like a player who had spent the entire offseason working on his game. Porzingis played a team high 27 minutes and scored a team high 22 points, but it was the way he scored those points that was most interesting. Step-back mid range shot check. And-1 dunk check. Three point shot check.
All this from a player who stands a robust 7 foot 3. Those are some impressive moves for a player his size. Not to mention the 2 blocks and 1 steal he had. The sky may not be the limit for KP6 it may be more like the moon or Saturn.
His most impressive display had to be his improved shot. Coach Hornacek has been quoted saying he spoke to Prozingis about putting some more arc on his shot. The improvements seemed to work as he shot 83% from 3 (5/6) and 73% from the field (8/11).
If Porzingis can bring his strong preseason play into the regular season, Phil Jackson may have just gotten the steal of the century. Considering the Lakers, and Sixers passed up on the 3-6 Latvia.
Now if only the Knicks can match the play of Porzingis, we may just be in store for a magical season.
